Course contents
Introduction to structural analysis. Review of centroids and
moments of inertia. Stress and strain in a point of a body. Quasi
static tensile test. Strength criteria. Introduction to the theory
of structural analysis of beams. Review on planar and spatial
constraints. Isostatic and hyperstatic structures. Constraint
reactions for isostatic systems. Internal actions diagrams. Stress
analysis of tensile, bending, shear and torsional loadings.
Membrane stress in thin shells under pressure. Deflections of
beams. Buckling and stability of columns. Exercises of structural
analysis of systems of beams. Mechanical behaviour and selection
procedure of bearings. Technical drawing of machine elements.

Assessment methods
The examination requires the solution of some exercises of
structural analysis, the answer to some theoretical questions and
the execution of a technical drawing by hands.
