Learning outcomes

The course considers the history of painting, sculpture and decorative arts neoclassical age nowadays, with particular attention to relations between the Italian and international context. Course contents

The course will proceed by examining the key hubs of contemporary art history, fulfilling a basic, educational chronological standard one hand, but also showing the relationship between situations very different and distant, with the awareness that the contemporary age is characterized from a “circular time” where the "life of forms" takes place in ways sometimes incoherent. This year's course will examine the art of the ending of nineteenth century and first half of the twentieth century. References will be highlighted with the art scene of the second half of the century and the beginning of XXIst. The student must knowthat in our contemporary age the concept of beauty is not of paramount importance, and that in addition to economic and social reasons, the real key to understanding the contemporary art lies mainly in the technological progress that concerns both artistic phenomena from a symbolic point of view, and substantially.

Teaching methods

The lessons will be conducted through lectures for which it is actively seeking participation, enriched by visits to museums and exhibitions.

Assessment methods

The audit will consist of an oral examination in which the student will prove to have acquired an adequate knowledge of the arguments and proposed methodologies, possibly also commenting some image.

Teaching tools

During the lessons will be projected images taken with modern digital technologies.

The images shown in class can be obtained for free by students.
