Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student is able to know the organization of tourism phenomena and interpret the nature of space and the spatial policies of local and sustainable development to regional and international levels. In particular, the student is able to: - know and apply the empirical reality theoretical, analytical and synthetic tools, and their evolution in the tourism sector - prepare projects for tourism development in terms of sustainability and integration of territorial resources to local and global scale in PS and developing countries within the framework of policies and UNESCO.
Course contents
The course aims to explain and discuss the spacial phenomena
with particular reference to tourism, based on global and regional
scale, as the paradigm of sustainable development, local
development, heritage, innovation, creativity,
and comunication.
A study will be confined to cultural tourism of Europeen and
Italian regions (Emilia-Romagna) with a series of case
studies presented by international experts and
scholars . Different teams of students will be
involved for local development tourism projects according
to the details of the policies of UNESCO (World Heritage Sites) and
the Council of Europe (Cultural Routes).

Teaching methods
Lectures will be presented in powerpoint and will be available online teaching materials. Documentation of case studies will be given .
Seminars will be organized with the participation of tourism experts and local actors. The tutor of Geography will be available to help students for project preparation.
Assessment methods
The written examination (four questions) will be at the end of each module. Students who pass the two examinations may take the viva or record the score obtained in the final assessment in one of three appeals of the first session. Students who choose a project are required to submit at the end of the course as oral. The final examination includes a written test with five questions and an optional oral examination, unless it's possible the teacher's decision to proceed even to the oral test in cases it deems appropriate. In case of failure students will not be accepted the next examination.
