Learning outcomes

The course intends to furnish the principal features and the essential critical tools for the knowledge of the Egyptian civilization. At the end of course the student has acquired an exhaustive knowledge of the history and the archaeology of ancient Egypt, with particular reference to the relationship among the Egyptian culture and the other interlocutors of the Mediterranean East among the Pharaonic period and that Hellenistic-Roman.

Course contents

The course ids divided into two parts. Part A (4cfu). dott. Manuel Martinez. 1. Introduction to the discipline in different aspects (historical, archaeological, cultural), 2. The Egyptian collections in Europe and in Italy, 3. The Egyptological culture in Sicily. Part B (2cfu). 1. The relationships between Egypt and the Phoenician and Punic world, 2. The Egyptianizing culture in Punic and Greek Sicily.

Frontal lessons and seminars.

Assessment methods

Written examination in course of year and oral examination on notes of the lessons and bibliography. The students not attending the lessons must arrange an integrative program with the teacher.
