Learning outcomes

Understanding the connections between social system and environment. Individuating those factors which change the equilibrium between human societies and the environment in which they are located. Defining the emerging problems and proposing concepts and tools to interpret them. At the end of the course, the student will be able to evaluate and compare the most important models of environmental policy, with the skill of elaborating ideas about the study of social aspects of territory.

Course contents

The increase of urban population and infrastructures is one of the biggest challenges for sustainable development. The city will be focused as a complex social system, with particular attention to economic, politic, cultural and environmental aspects. The context is represented by cities which are fighting to maintain theyr own identity, looking for new development strategies too. Urban policies with an impact on the quality of life will be considered: green areas, mobility, public spaces, housing, etc.
