Course contents
1st module: A short history of Armenological studies. The "instrumenta studiorum". A brief excursus on Armenian history and literary history. Main elements of the Armenian language: periodization (ancient, medieval and modern phases of the language; Eastern and Western Armenian). The alphabet. Elementary notions of grammar of the ancient Armenian. The translation of the Bible and the oldest original literary texts (Vth century). Reading and textual analysis of easy phrases from the text of the Gospels.

Students of both the first and second module will add to these volumes the anthology "In forma di parole. Canto d'Armenia. Yerg Hayastani", a cura di B.L. Zekiyan, Bologna 1998.
"Vecchio ordinamento" students (5 or 10 CFU and not 6 or 12 CFU) will not study the texts contained in "Il mondo della Bibbia", issue n°. 91.
Teaching methods
Lessons "ex cathedra" will alternate with practical textual seminars, so that students can achieve a better knoledge of Armenian script and grammar. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the student take an active part in the course.
Assessment methods
During an oral exam, students will be asked to demonstrate that they have a deep knowledge of the arguments of the lessons and that they studied the relevant bibliography. In this occasion, they will be invited to read and translate easy passages in Armenian.
