The University of Bologna promotes new extra-EU mobility opportunities for students enrolled in the Master's, PhD and last two years of Single-Cycle Degree courses. Within the framework of projects financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) - Transnational Education (TNE), these students can carry out a research period or an internship aimed at writing their thesis at partner universities in Africa, the Middle East and Argentina.
What is it, and what use is it to you?
The TNE student mobility programme offers an international experience for activities related to thesis or doctoral research, strengthening academic and professional skills in intercultural contexts.
Who can take part?
Students enrolled in Master's degree courses, PhD courses or in one of the last two years of Single-Cycle Master's degree courses, who will maintain their enrolment active for the entire duration of the mobility and will not obtain their degree during their stay, may apply. The subject areas involved in each project can be found in Annex 1 of the call for applications (List of destinations).
What does it offer?
The programme provides mobility grants for periods of at least two months, including:
- monthly contribution of 700 euros;
- coverage of return travel expenses.
Where can you go?
Mobilities are offered within the following projects:
- Afya Moja (East Africa)
- Wagon2Africa (East Africa)
- MARE (Middle East and Northern Africa)
- Moving Italianness (Argentina)

How to take part
See the Call for applications and the List of destinations for details on requirements, documents to be attached, evaluation criteria, incompatibilities and obligations.
The application must be submitted via the Studenti Online platform, by selecting the call 'TNE student mobility'. It will be possible to apply in three rounds:
- 3 June – 3 July 2025
- 8 September – 3 October 2025
- 3 – 14 November 2025
To apply, you will also need a declaration by your supervisor attesting the relevance of the mobility for your thesis, and a letter of support from the host lecturer of the foreign partner university.
What is the duration of the exchange?
The mobility must last at least 2 months and must end no later than 1 March 2026. The maximum duration varies for each project and is indicated in Annex 1 of the call (List of destinations).
