Why specialise

Medical specialisation schools offer intensive training in a specific area of medicine. By enrolling in a specialisation programme, you will:

• acquire advanced knowledge and further develop your clinical skills.
• take part in both theoretical and practical training, gradually assuming care responsibilities and performing procedures under the supervision of a tutor.
• gain greater professional recognition.

Duration and financial support

Medical specialisation programmes last 4 or 5 years. Throughout the programme, trainees receive an annual financial allowance paid in 12 monthly instalments by the University of Bologna. Full details are available in the call for applications.

To apply, you must take part in the national selection process, usually announced in May on the website of the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR). You can choose the University of Bologna as your host institution.

Scholarships and benefits

Scholarships of €7,285 per year are available to support students enrolled in specialisation programmes. You can find full details of the requirements in the call for applications for your programme of interest.

You may also be eligible for support from ER.GO, the Regional Authority for the Right to Higher Education, including scholarships, accommodation, and other benefits.  Visit the ER.GO website to learn more.

To apply, you must take part in the competitive selection process based on academic qualifications and an entrance exam, usually announced by July.
