Course contents

Workshop programme

Storytelling in education can be understood as a set of narrative and rhetorical techniques used for the purpose of achieving a more engaging, meaningful, effective and inclusive construction of knowledge; through a narrative, a story, a tale, it may be easier to understand and appropriate ideas, concepts, educational content or ethical behaviour.

In this sense, digital technologies offer the formal educational context a wealth of potential that was previously only the preserve of media professionals.

In the workshop, some tools for the conception, design and realisation of digital storytelling productions for education will be presented.

Specifically, the student will learn how to

- create and manage a personal website
- devise and design a digital narrative illustrating an educational content;
- use tools for creating podcasts and online videos;
- design and produce a stop-motion (or one-step) animation.

Important information

- the workshop, which lasts 24 hours in presence, is compulsory attendance: a maximum of 6 hours of absence is only allowed for serious and justified reasons (illness, with medical certificate; overlapping with other compulsory training activities, by sending an email to both the activity contact persons; etc.);

- the workshop provides for the award of 3 training credits (CFU). Please note that each credit is worth 25 hours and that, therefore, in addition to the 24 hours of attendance there are a further 51 hours of individual work at home;

- students who register for the workshop occupy a place and must necessarily cancel before the start of the workshop if they do not intend to attend, so that the place can be vacated;

- in the event of absence from the first laboratory lesson, the student must notify the lecturer by e-mail of the reason at least one week before the start of the lessons, on pain of being excluded from the laboratory.

Readings/Bibliography

Readings, texts and articles for further study will be pointed out to the students during the workshop.

Teaching methods

The course is organised in workshop mode and includes:

- work modules presented in class;
- individual and group exercises to be carried out at home during the course;
- final exercise

Assessment methods

To obtain idoneity, students must hand in all partial exercises and the final exercise.

Please note that each 3 CFU lab comprises 24 hours of in-person teaching (8 hours per CFU) and 51 hours of individual study (each CFU is 25 hours in total). Therefore, it will not be sufficient to attend the lab to obtain the assessment, instead it will be necessary to do all the required exercises.

At the end of the workshop, the assessment will be expressed as an idoneity. In order to obtain the aptitude, the student must attend the lectures and actively participate in the activities proposed in presence; deliver all the required exercises respecting the deadlines.
