Course contents
The objective of the course is to supply students with the basic techniques and instruments which are necessary for professional interpreting. In the first part, class activities will include information selection and memorization tasks, psychological training, sight translation and close tests. Students will have the opportunity to play the role of interpreter in situations close to real interpreting. The taking note system for consecutive interpreting will be introduced. Finally, students will have the opportunity to know the simultaneous technique. Real material (speeches, radio and TV interviews, debates, dialogues, etc. recorded on CD and DVD) will be used. The course will focus on topics such as international relationships, trade and economic relations, official visits, mass media, environment and ecology, social problems and current affairs. Further areas of study may be agreed upon with students during the course.

Teaching methods
Preparatory exercises of memorization, synthesis and oral rearrangement. Gradual development and acquisition of the note taking technique. Students will have the opportunity to develop the role of interpreter in situations close to real interpreting, created either by using real material (radio and TV interviews, debates and dialogues). Before facing a given area of study, its terminological aspects will be analyzed by preparing specific glossaries.
Assessment methods
The aim of the final exam is to test the initial aquisition of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting techniques between Russian and Italian.
The exam is composed by:
- 5 minutes consecutive interpreting from Russian into Italian
- 10 minutes simultaneous interpreting froma Russian into Italian.
The exam will concern Russian area topics and latest news.
The final grade will be the average of marks obtained by the student in the different parts of this exam.
