Abstract
The AGILITY project: Developing and strengthening AGIle high-quaLITY work Currently, the acceleration of digitalisation processes and exploration of new work arrangements, such as agile working, stands at the core of debates in organisational and management disciplines. This is due to the massive and widespread adoption of flexible forms of working, especially from a post-pandemic perspective. The emerging flexible work arrangements mean more than allowing employees to perform their activities using technology. They, in fact, introduce in-depth changes that challenge the traditional meanings of work and orient towards the achievement of objectives, autonomy, and empowerment. Such changes have been leading to the question of the quality of agile working and how and to what extent agile working represents a valuable and sustainable pathway. Scholars have introduced high-quality agile working to identify the underpinning resources of quality agile working. Namely, these resources are agile remote workstations, agile offices within organisations, flex-time, and enabling management. However, the literature on agile working is still in its infancy, with the notion of high-quality agile work remaining an uncertain and fragmented topic in the field. Likewise, there is no exploration of the individual and organisational conditions of the four named resources for agile working. The present project aims to address these gaps by providing theoretical and empirical contributions to the literature on the resources of high-quality agile working and the associated individual, group and organisational predictors and outcomes. To pursue this primary objective, the project foresees five working packages (WP), among which WP 1-3 will be devoted to investigating each high-quality agile working resource. Then, WP 4 will provide a comprehensive model of high-quality agile working because of the knowledge gained during the previous WPs. The WP5 will guarantee the project coordination and the dissemination and exploitation of the research products and policy recommendations to emphasise the project’s scientific, technological, and societal impact. These WPs foresee specific research activities and methodologies spanning from bibliographic research to qualitative and quantitative research designs, which will be developed by a synergistic collaboration between the three research Units. Given the importance of agile working for increasing organisational competitiveness, innovativeness, and sustainability, especially in Italy, this project, consistently with PNRR, stands its value in providing further knowledge to implement agile working effectively.
