Abstract
The project is a continuation of Petrarca on-line (PRIN2017), currently engaged in the creation of the first digital platform dedicated to the life and work of Francesco Petrarca, structured as a bilingual (Italian and English) open access site of resources deriving from the research in the fields of philology, codicology-palaeography, literary criticism, history and the history of art. Users will be able to find, search and cross-reference the following sections and subsections: 1. Works: the complete corpus of writings in vernacular and Latin by P. in critically revised, codified, searchable texts, and the list, description and reproduction of the manuscripts that contain each work; 2. Library: census and description of all the volumes of classical, patristic and medieval works studied by P. which have come down to us directly or indirectly (annotated autographs or apographs), with bibliography and reproductions of each manuscript; 3. Chronology: P.’s life events and works described year by year, timeline, bibliography, maps, references to other sections, images; 4. Resources: a) general bibliography; b) 14th-16th century biographies of P., with encoding of the texts and census of their manuscript and printed tradition; c) iconography; d) materials and tools, including PDFs of fundamental texts in the history of Petrarchan studies and preparation of a digital edition of the texts of Vat. lat. 3196, of the 15th-16th century copies of lost autograph annotations to the Tr. Cup., as well as of most significant extant autograph annotations to classical authors; stratigraphy and chronology of Triumphi; link to the catalogue and digitization of the collection of the Petrarch scholar Giuseppe Fracassetti (1802-1883) and to the archive of the ‘Commissione per l’Edizione Nazionale delle Opere di F. P.’; 5. Thematic areas: focused on the main themes of P.’s literary output and its reception; some designed to be specifically usable for didactic purposes; 6. Reporting of the main events, publishing news and links to the internet resources connected with the project, which can be carried out by the users themselves through the creation of a mailing list. The project aims to contribute to the completion of the objectives set in phase 1 is accompanied by further IT development and an expansion of sections 4-6, foreseen from the initial design phase but not yet set up or populated (see B1.2). The whole will make the site not only an essential place for archiving and accessing the already known broad Petrarch heritage, but also a hub for interdisciplinary research methods and approaches, as well as a tool of considerable social impact, since it will guarantee greater and better promotion of the father of European Humanism, both internationally and in the world of education.
