ECOSISTER: Ecosystem for Sustainable Transition in Emilia-Romagna
The project aims to bring technological innovation for environmental sustainability to companies in the Emilia-Romagna region through scientific and industrial research. It starts with setting up the Ecosister Foundation to coordinate and manage the activities.

How can we support the production system of the Emilia-Romagna region towards a sustainable economy?
The Ecosister project supports the ecological transformation of the economic and social system of Emilia-Romagna, focusing on:
- transforming production cycles to share, borrow, reuse, repair and recycle materials in a circular economy perspective
- pollution prevention in cities and ecosystems
- collective action to combat climate change

Thanks to this project, the University of Bologna has contributed to:
- developing materials and production processes from renewable sources and industrial waste, which efficiently interact well with biological systems, reducing the environmental impact of packaging in the food supply chain.
- creating recyclable products and eco-sustainable production systems, i.e., low-impact and environmentally friendly processes that respect workplace conditions.
- developing integrated product and process systems, with particular focus on logistics and material distribution and storage systems.Designing low-impact and recyclable batteries that support the conversion and storage of renewable energy.
- establishing mobility infrastructure, aimed at ensuring the development of the city in line with economic, social and environmental sustainability
- conducting feasibility studies and experiments aimed at understanding the current level of environmental sustainability of industrial activities in Emilia-Romagna.
What activities are in progress?
