Guidelines for managing fundraising campaigns

The guidelines define how projects are identified and fundraising campaigns are managed, to ensure maximum transparency regarding the use of funds and the impact of the initiatives supported.

What are guidelines for?

The University of Bologna's Guidelines for managing fundraising campaigns [.pdf 207 KB] (in Italian) define the framework for the design, implementation and reporting of fundraising initiatives promoted by the University's Departments.

They serve to ensure that each campaign is conducted in accordance with the values of scientific integrity, transparency and responsibility, and that donors can clearly recognise the objectives and impact of the activities supported.

The guidelines put into practice the principles of the University's Strategic Plan, promoting the conscious and consistent use of donations to support research, the right to higher education and collaborative activities with companies and businesses.

Criteria for identifying projects

Each fundraising proposal is evaluated by the proposing structures based on shared criteria, which ensure consistency with the University's mission and values.

Projects are assessed based on:

  • Scientific soundness and methodological reliability.
  • Economic, organisational and temporal feasibility.
  • Compliance with the ethical principles of research and academic integrity.
  • Clarity of communication, to ensure that the objectives are expressed in a comprehensible and realistic manner.

For campaigns hosted on the University's Unimpatto platform, there is also a centralised consistency and eligibility check by the Online Donations Committee.

Campaign planning considers the University's overall communication capacity and the balanced representation of different subject areas, without competition between departments or projects.

How the University protects donors and project implementers

The guidelines ensure that every fundraising campaign is reliable, transparent and accountable.
Each donation supports projects approved according to clear criteria, with specific commitments on the allocation of funds and the communication of results.

In particular, the University ensures:

  • Responsible use of funds for the stated purposes.
  • Truthfulness of information provided to donors.
  • Absence of conflicts of interest in the research groups involved.
  • Public reporting of activities and social impacts achieved.
  • Protection of personal data of those who participate in or contribute to campaigns.
