Returning to studies

All the information you need on how to return to study at university if you have interrupted your studies.

If you interrupted your studies without graduating

If you interrupted your studies but wish to complete your university path, here are the steps you can take.

Send an e-mail to the Student Administration Office for your Degree Programme to ask about the status of your university career and check, if you have lost your student status, the status of your payments, the exams passed and the last study plan you presented.

If there is still time before you lose your student status, you can ask to pay a recognition fee (a lump-sum calculated according to the number of years in which you have not paid your tuition fees) and any other outstanding fees (note: if you plan to graduate by March 2020 remember that you must pay the full tuition fees for A.Y. 2018/19).

Now you can:

Deadline for the presentation of the application to return to studies

To resume interrupted studies, you must present the application from  01 October 2019.

Only for students with non-EU citizenship resident abroad: interruption of your studies may affect your right to stay in Italy. Contact the International Students Desk to check your situation.

If the Administration Office informs you that you have already lost your student status, you can enrol in a new Degree Programme for A.Y. 2019/20 and apply to the Degree Programme Board for full or partial recognition of the exams you passed previously, paying an indemnity of €200.00.

To sit the exams, consult the exam session dates and register on line with the AlmaEsami service.

The latest university reforms have introduced some changes to the degree programmes and you may find that your programme has changed code or name.

If you have withdrawn from studies and wish to start on a new university career, you can enrol in a new Degree Programme for A.Y. 2019/20 and apply to the Degree Programme Board for full or partial recognition of the exams you passed previously, paying an indemnity of €200.00. In this case you must add also the application of recognition of credits (in Italian) [.pdf] completed and signed.

Only for students with non-European Union citizenship resident abroad (non-EU): Students withdrawing from studies who wish to enrol again at the same or another University cannot use the residence permit issued for study purposes for the previous registration, but must repeat the pre-enrollment procedure at the Italian Representation in their foreign country of residence.
