Admission requirements and assessment of previously acquired knowledge/competences

Admission tothe 1st cycle degree programme in Environmental Engineering issubject to the possession of a secondary school diploma or other suitablequalification obtained abroad. Admission to the degree programme is alsosubject to the possession of strong oral and written Italian language skills,logical reasoning skills, knowledge of and ability to use the main results ofelementary mathematics and the foundations of experimental sciences. Candidatesnot passing the assessment for admission will be assigned additional learningrequirements. These additional learning requirements are subject to specific assessment.Students who do not complete the additional learning requirements by the dateset by the competent bodies and in any case within the first year of theprogramme will be required to enrol as repeating students in the first year.
Admission tothe Degree Programme is also subject to the assessment of knowledge and skillsin the English language, to level B1.More details can be found inthe Degree Programme Regulations.

Programme profile

The aim ofthis Degree Programme is to train graduates able to work in environmentalengineering, particularly in the field of the protection of the soil and theterritory, environmental techniques and technologies and geo-resources andgeotechnologies. The main areas of study include:

-environmental risk analysis, with reference to normal and abnormal conditionscaused by anthropic settlements and activities;
- open airand underground excavations, soil and rock logging, for the construction oftunnels and other civil and mining works;
-interventions for territorial prevention, protection and reclamation requiredas a result of natural and/or anthropic territorial damage.

For thispurpose, the curriculum is designed to ensure that graduates acquire:

- a suitablecommand of the methodological and practical aspects of basic sciences appliedto engineering;
-appropriate command of general engineering knowledge and tools and thoseapplied to environmental engineering, including: methods, techniques, equipment,systems and infrastructure for the design, execution, management and monitoringof works which imply modifications to the biosphere, with particular referenceto the layer of the earth affected by anthropic functions and current andpotential resources of interest to man.

In theirfirst year, students particularly acquire a solid common base of knowledge inthe fields of mathematics, computing, general physics and applied chemistry.Thereafter, the curriculum in years two and three are marked by their multidisciplinaryand inter-sectoral approach, mainly within the field of environmentalengineering, including learning activities in the field of civil engineeringand safety.The learning activities,including workshops, therefore aim to develop the students' knowledge andcompetence in geology-applied geotechnics, construction and materialstechniques, mining and underground fluid engineering, hydraulics and hydraulicconstructions, topography and cartography, chemical engineering and chemicalsystems. Graduates will complete their training with basic knowledge of thefields of economic and management engineering and one foreign language.
