Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student is able to understand: - the efficiency of performance in recreational and sport activities; - exercise programs that contribute to the achievement and maintenance of physical efficiency, health and psycho-physical well-being; - the main body composition assessment techniques and their applicability; - how the body responds and adapts, from a functional point of view, to exercise in the different age groups.

Definitions and key concepts relating to physical activity, exercise, sport and health

Physical activity as a determinant of health

Relationship between physical activity, exercise, sport and health in the current context

Health promotion through physical activity in various population targets

Introduction to the types of physical activity and related effects in relation to dosage

Key aspects relating to metabolic, cardio-respiratory and neuromuscular adaptations induced by exercise

Methodological and basic application aspects within the administration of the exercise

The protective role of adapted physical activity and adapted physical exercise in the context of chronic diseases

Insights related to the evaluation of the effectiveness of physical activity promotion interventions aimed at healthy people (primary prevention) and suffering from subacute or chronic disease (tertiary prevention)

Hints of functional assessments, the level of physical efficiency and body composition in various population targets

Readings/Bibliography

The slides, scientific paper and in-depth links presented during the lectures will constitute the reference material.

Teaching methods

Lectures with the help of presentations in Power Point or Pdf format and interactive lessons characterized by the collegial discussion of scientific articles, case studies and insights chosen by the students, in agreement with the teacher.

Practical exercises carried out in person and online.

The teaching material presented in class will be available on the virtual platform of the Alma Mater Studiorum - University of Bologna. 

The course adhere to the University's educational innovation project (supplementary digital teaching - DDI).

Assessment methods

The "Exercise, Sport and Health" exam is part of the integrated course "Physical Exercise And Health Products C.I." and will consist of a written test lasting 1 hour, with multiple choice questions and open-ended questions.

The verification of learning at the end of the "Exercise, Sport and Health" course aims to evaluate the achievement of the following macro objectives:

- Know the definitions and basic methodological principles of exercise in relation to health and lifestyles.

- Know the role of exercise in the prevention of chronic / degenerative diseases

- Know the rationale for using the exercise, effective communication and appropriate recommendations in relation to the target.

To check the dates and register for the exams it is necessary to access "AlmaEsami".

Teaching tools

The lessons will be supported by visual and audiovisual aids (video projector, PC). As part of the practical exercises, it will be possible to use case studies and tools for the assessment and teaching of physical activity with reference to the topics covered during the course.
