Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student has an adequate knowledge on in vitro and in vivo experimental methods for the evaluation of functional and health effects of ingredients for food supplements and nutraceuticals.
Course contents
Module 1 - Prof. Andrea Tarozzi
Introduction to preclinical development of nutraceuticals. In vitro and in vivo models used in preclinical research. Identification and determination of the action mechanism of nutraceuticals. Evaluation of ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion) and bioavailability of nutraceuticals.
Module 2 - Prof. Letizia Pruccoli
Laboratory experiences aimed at the in vitro evaluation of some health effects of plant ingredients for the nutraceutical market. The laboratory activities also include the preparation of a laboratory notebook with the activities carried out.
