Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: - knows the contemporary debate concerning the educational function of museums and the pedagogy of heritage with particular reference to national and international guidelines; - knows the main elements of museum and heritage education in relation to the different fields of social and cultural education; - will be able to analyze the main characteristics of heritage contexts in relation to the different users / audiences to guide the planning of educational paths; - will be able to identify basic skills related to digital environments in cultural heritage and museum education contexts; - will know how to use digital tools and environments to support the physical museum spaces and the itineraries proposed in them; - knows the main strategies for mediating the contents of the heritage and making them accessible to the public; - will be able to identify the salient elements for the design and construction of exhibition arrangements in real and virtual spaces; - will be able to independently carry out research to get to know the different Italian, European and non-European museum institutions and analyze their good practices.

Course contents

The course aims to raise awareness of the main aspects related to the evolution of museums in relation to collections, spaces, installations, purposes and types of public. In particular, it explores the main didactic strategies to mediate cultural heritage making it accessible to different audiences through immersive educational experiences.
The course also aims to introduce the elements of virtual museology through the analysis of digital tools and environments with particular reference to virtual and augmented reality platforms.
Finally, the different approaches for the design of educational paths in digital environments are explored, with particular reference to the different contexts of education to cultural heritage.
