Course contents

Module 1: Pharmaceutical technology and Legislation (N. Passerini, 40 hours)

  • Definition of medicines and dosage forms.
  • Biopharmaceutics.
  • Solid dosage forms: Powders; Granules; Tablets; Hard and soft shell capsules.
  • Suppositories and pessaries.
  • Fundamentals on Italian low and regulation issues relevant to pharmacist professional practice in pharmacy.

Module 2: Pharmaceutical technology (B. Albertini, 24 hours)

  • Liquid dosage forms: Solutions; Disperse systems: interfacial phenomena, rheology, emulsions, suspensions; syrups.
  • Topical preparations.
  • Ophthalmic preparations. Parenteral products.
  • Pharmaceutical aerosols.

Module 3: Pharmacy Practice Laboratory (Passerini or Albertini, 75 hours)

Delivery of the recipe and preparation of the following galenic formulations: capsules, syrup, suspension, emulsion, cream, ointment, paste, suppositories and pessaries.
