Learning outcomes
Once completed the course, the student has acquired the ability to recognize the testimonial and socio-cultural value of architectural elements and urban contexts. In particular, the student is able to: - document the reasons and the potential for transformation compliant with their protection - envisage transformative scenarios considering the evolution of relationships, communications, productive streams in several areas.
Course contents
The lessons will consist of a series of thematic seminars, focused on the fundamentals of the history of Italian contemporary city and of historical-critical analysis of the city; and on case studies related to the city of Bologna, analyzing different issues, among which:
- the use of media and new media as a tool not only to shape and spread the image of a city, but also to understand its identity (or identities) and track its main transformations;
- the issues related to the problem of the reuse of "industrial archeology" complexes: one of the central themes in the transformation of Italian cities in recent decades, because of the different dimensions (architectural-construction, urban, technological, economic, social) involved;
- historical research as a traditional and consolidated tool of knowledge of architecture, to insert innovative experiments related to contemporary processes of urban regeneration

Bibliographic references and related materials will be provided lesson by lesson on VIRTUALE (virtuale.unibo.it).
Teaching methods
Face-to face or online lessons and seminars; Guided tours in Bologna (if possible).
Assessment methods
The final exam will consist of an interview aimed at verifying the knowledge of the issued addressed in the lessons and tours and of the bibliographic materials available on VIRTUALE.
Teaching tools
In addition to the slides used during the lectures, bibliographic materials will be available on VIRTUALE.
