91276 - Project Work in Combinatorial Optimization

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Artificial Intelligence (cod. 9063)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student is able to apply the knowledge acquired in Combinatorial Optimization in order to carry out autonomously a project focusing on a topic agreed upon with the teacher.

Course contents

This teaching activity is about developing a project in combinatorial optimization, following the course 91762 - Combinatorial Decision Making and Optimization. Upon request, the teacher can offer suggestions and help in defining the topic and objective of the project work. The student is, however, encouraged to take the initiative by reviewing the relevant literature and proposing a project work, for instance, about:

  • modelling and solving a challenging problem;
  • working on a research topic;
  • preparing a literature survey on a research topic.

The proposal has to be approved by the teacher before the student starts working on the project. Working as a group is a possibility depending on the project complexity.

Readings/Bibliography

Scientific papers and pointers provided by the teacher,  in addition to the readings and bibliography of the course 91762 - Combinatorial Decision Making and Optimization.

Teaching methods

While the project activity does not require participation to lectures, the student is advised to attend relevant online courses and webinars to improve his/her skills. Once the project aim is approved by the teacher, the student starts working in autonomy with regular meetings to report the progress to the teacher.

Assessment methods

A short presentation giving the details of the work carried out.

Teaching tools

The student can freely choose any relevant tool for project development and support.
