SYLLABUS (LABORATORY)

MODULE I: Indicativo and subjuntivo.

1- Grammar structures:

- Indicativo (presente, pasado, futuro)
- Subjuntivo (presente)
- Ordenar el discurso (en primer lugar/en segundo lugar (...), por una parte/por otra parte, de un lado/de otro lado, asimismo)

2. Communicative practice:

- Descripción de lugares, cosas, personas (en presente, pasado y futuro)
- Narración de hechos pasados
- Programas para el futuro

MODULE II: Expresar juicios de valor, consejos, sugerencia, sentimientos, certidumbre y dudas.

1- Grammar structures:

- (no) creer/pensar/opinar, parecer + que + indicativo/subjuntivo;
- v1 + que + v2 (juicios de valor, consejos, sugerencia, sentimientos, certidumbre y dudas).

2. Communicative practice:

Textos (orales o escritos) en los que se expresen juicios de valor, consejos, sugerencia, sentimientos, certidumbre y dudas a partir de un tema relacionado con la actualidad histórico-política o socioeconómica de España o Hispanoamérica.

MODULO III: Ordinar el discurso

1- Grammar structures:

- en conclusión, en definitiva, en fin, para recapitular
- de hecho, en realidad para reforzar
- en cambio, sin embargo, no obstante, de todos modos para contrastar

2. Communicative practice:

Textos (orales o escritos) en los que se articula la expresión de valor, consejos, sugerencia, sentimientos, certidumbre y dudas a partir de un tema relacionado con la actualidad histórico-política o socioeconómica de España o Hispanoamérica.

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT PRACTICE:
Oral presentation of a topic based on some Spanish or Latin American current affairs articles read in class and expressing opinions and value judgments. The presentation should be made in groups of three people or last a maximum of 10 minutes.

MODULO IV: Indicativo/subjuntivo para estructuras complejas para expresar circunstancias de tiempo, causa, finalidad, contraste y dudas. (I)

1- Grammar structures:

- usos del indicativo/subjuntivo relacionados con la expresión de tiempo, causa, fin, contraste y duda
- uso de conjunciones antes de (que), cuando, después de (que), siempre que, desde que, hasta que + indicativo/subjuntivo
- usos de adverbios quizás, tal vez, seguramente, etc. + indicativo/subjuntivo
- uso de a lo mejor + indicativo

2. Communicative practice:

Textos (orales o escritos) en los que se expresen circunstancias temporales, causales, finales, de contraste y de dudas a partir de un tema relacionado con la actualidad histórico-política o socioeconómica de España o Hispanoamérica.

 

PARTE II

MODULO V: Indicativo/subjuntivo para estructuras complejas para expresar circunstancias de tiempo, causa, finalidad, contraste y dudas. (II)

1- Grammar structures:

- usos del indicativo/subjuntivo/infinitivo relacionados con la expresión de causa y finalidad
- usos de por y para + infinito, porque + indicativo/subjuntivo y para que + subjuntivo
- usos de aunque/a pesar de que + indicativo/subjuntivo para la objeción o contraste
- usos de las conjunciones porque, como, puesto que, que, para (que), con el objeto de (que), a (que), etc.

2. Communicative practice:

Textos (orales o escritos) en los que se expresen circunstancias de tiempo, causa, finalidad, contraste y dudas a partir de un tema relacionado con la actualidad histórico-política o socioeconómica de España o Hispanoamérica.

MODULO VI: Expresar deseo presente y futuro. Expresar probabilidad en el pasado y posterioridad al mismo.

1- Grammar structures:

- repaso de indicativo, imperativo y subjuntivo (presente, pretérito perfecto, imperfecto, pluscuamperfecto)
- formas y usos del condicional (simple [repaso] y compuesto)
- me gustaría + infinito/que + subjuntivo,
- ojalà/ que + + subjuntivo
- v1 + infinito/que + + subjuntivo.

2. Communicative practice:

Textos (orales o escritos) en los que se expresen consejos y sugerencias a un amigo que tiene un problema, dar instrucciones sobre cómo resolver un problema a partir de un tema turístico relacionado con alguna gran ciudad de España o Hispanoamérica.

CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT PRACTICE:
Starting from the exposure of a real conflict situation (current or personal experience) give advice, orders and instructions for solving the problem. The exposure can also be oral and in pairs and should last 5 minutes.

MODULO VII: Expresar condiciones e hipótesis

1- Grammar structures:

- la condición si y otras conjunciones y locuciones condicionales
- hipótesis del primer tipo (presente/futuro/imperativo), de segundo tipo (condicional simple/imperfecto subjuntivo) y del tercer tipo (condicional compuesto/pluscuamperfecto subjuntivo)

2. Communicative practice:

Textos (orales o escritos) en los que se expresen situaciones hipotéticas en el pasado, presente y futuro a partir de un tema relacionado con la actualidad histórico-política o socioeconómica de España o Hispanoamérica.

MODULO VIII: Presentación oral de contenidos histórico-políticos o socioeconómicos

- la argumentación
- la conclusión

2. Communicative practice:

- (instead of oral) Presentation of a personal experience (work, academic, volunteer, etc.) of 10 minutes maximum in which colleagues and teachers can participate.

Teaching methods

THE COURSE

The Spanish I course (30 teaching hours) will be held in the first semester. During said course readings, grammar discussions, communicative exercises and activities will be used to develop reading and listening comprehension and help students build their vocabulary, looking at the forms and/or structures as well as at the colloquial or formal aspects of the language.

THE LABORATORY

During the first semestre students will attend an B1 level laboratory covering 40 teaching hours. This laboratory will provide students with extra practice and theoretical background, through exercises and supplementary explanations, of the essential structures of the Spanish language which are necessary for an appropriate communicative proficiency.

Assessment methods

 

Learning assessment and evaluation

The assessment and evaluation of students’ learning will be conducted through the continuous assessment activities done by them in the course and laboratory, two mid-term tests -mandatory for students who attend the course- and a final oral exam -for students who attend the course regularly. There will also be both a written and oral exam for students who cannot comply with the recommended attendance minimum.

Attendance

An attendance of, minimum, 60% of the lessons is strongly suggested (out of the total number of hours of the course and the laboratory added up), to ensure that students will be able to acquire the notions, functions and develop the skills practised throughout the course.

 

The oral exam (after a brief first-sight reading test) will consist of a conversation with the examiner about sotorical arguments.

 

In order to be allowed to take the oral exam, students must enrol at ALMAESAMI.

 

Non-attending students

Due to the sanitary emergency resulting from the Covid-19 in the present academic year, the exam for non-attending students will not be in person, but online. This mode of exam taking has brought about some changes in the format and procedure, but not in the contents.

1. Students shall connect to the corresponding virtual classroom- which shall be informed to them in due time- on the set date and at the set time. The first step of the process will be the identification of the students, who must show a valid ID with a picture, followed by the teacher’s general instructions. The device used for the exam must have a microphone and webcam in perfect working condition.

2. Students will then access a Moodle environment (IOL or EOL) in order to do the first 3 sections of the test.

Section 1:

Grammar section composed of 30 items ranging from levels B1. T

Section 2:

Historical-political section composed of 15 items based on Debate (module C and D).

Section 3:

Reading a journalistic text and carrying out three tasks (extracting main ideas, transforming direct style into indirect style, expressing opinions, making value judgments and making proposals).

 

Students must enrol previously through ALMAESAMI to be allowed to take the exam.

 

Remember: each student can take the test ONLY ONCE on each exam date.
