78149 - Technical Architecture T

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Moduli: Luca Guardigli (Modulo 1) Marco Pasquini (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Civil Engineering (cod. 8888)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course and after passing the final verification test, the students will have the basic knowledge of the construction process, starting from the structural and environmental principles of buildings, up to the definition of the building components. The skills of the students both concern the problems present in the new buildings and the interventions on the existing heritage.

Course contents

PRELIMINARY LESSONS

• Design criteria related to building safety.

• Soil - structure interaction

• Design criteria linked to user well-being and environmental sustainability.

MODULE 1 (Guardigli)

• Existing reinforced concrete constructions and their criticalities from an energetic and structural point of view.

• New reinforced concrete constructions: materials, construction techniques, construction elements (vertical structures, horizontal structures, roofs, foundations, completion elements).

• New wooden constructions: materials, construction techniques, construction elements (vertical structures, horizontals, foundations, completion elements).

• Notes on steel constructions.

MODULE 2 (Pasquini)

• Existing buildings in load-bearing masonry and their criticalities from an energetic and structural point of view.

• New load-bearing masonry constructions: materials, construction techniques, construction elements (vertical structures, horizontal structures, roofs, foundations, completion elements)

• Evolution of the seismic legislation for interventions on the existing building heritage and the main techniques for the seismic improvement for existing buildings in load bearing masonry.

Teaching methods

THEORETICAL PART (Guardigli, Pasquini)

Frontal lessons in the classroom.

APPLICATION PART (Massafra, Guardigli, Pasquini)

Exercise activities with a practical approach to the construction principles illustrated in the course of the theory lessons. 4 non-compulsory exercises that increase the final grade up to 2 points and include: interactive questionnaires, design simulations, creation of small construction prototypes

Assessment methods

Final written exam on theory topics, to be held on the same day for both modules. Approximate time: 1 hour and thirty minutes per module.

More precise indications on the type of questions present in the written test are presented in the classroom towards the end of the course.
