Teaching methods

Frontal lessons normally with a visual Prezi support, readings in the classroom, video, focus group discussions and other specific group activities in a learning by doing perspective.

If you're not going to attend the course, you're invited anyway to attend the first lesson of the course or, eventually, to contact me with an e-mail in order to focus the studying of the books.

Assessment methods

 Normally you can choose one of these two options:

a) the oral examination is on Presence; or on platform "Teams" for documented reasons; in this case the languages you can use are Italian as well as English.

About the oral examination:

You have Croteau as a manual 1-11 chapter; eventually you can study on another manual after having received my aproval. You have to send me title, author and the year of edition.

+ the article: in materiali integrativi--> erasmus Defining drinking culture A critical review of its meaning and connotation in social research on alcohol problems.pdf

PLUS: as a voluntary task you can add a written composition on a social theme we will concorde with the teacher.

Oral exam structure: three questions are made on fairly general subjects. The greater the ability to manage and deepen the discourse/topic required, the greater the assessment of it.

Based on each answer provided by the student, the teacher can eventually add items to the question in order to develop a deepen answer from the candidate

The vote attribution will be worded as a final result of the answers received, including silent answers considered equal to zero.

General criteria:

•in correspondence with approximate answers, completely out of the topic, or silence the grade will be less than 18 on 30 and the student will be invited to re-apply;

•if the student provides relevant but superficial and/or incomplete answers but demonstrates at the same time a knowledge of the framework aspects of the subject, the assessment will range between 18-21 on 30;

•if the student has a knowledge of the basic aspects of the subject and a more than sufficient ability to connect its key concepts, the grade will range between 22 on 30 and 25 on 30;

•if the student demonstrates a good knowledge of the subject, with the ability to deepen and connect the themes, the authors, research programs and techniques, paradigms, and theoretical notions as well as appropriate exhibition skills, the grade will be oriented between 26 and 30 on 30, where 30 on 30 represents an excellent level of autonomous reworking.

Exceptionally the praise is given when cognitive objectives, mastery and ability to connect themes, deepening, and reflexivity are excellent for all the proposed stimuli.

If your oral exam is sufficient (8/30) you will receive 2 points more with your written composition. So send it at least 3 days before your oral exam in order to obtain this extra evaluation.

b) the written text (only in Italian and only studying the Italian program for the course: check it on the Italian version of this guide + on virtuale "Presentazione corso Sociologia 2022"; you have to study on Croteau manual 2022, adding Alcol e stile giovane and "salute" article selected version).

The written test is completely in Italian and it is the written exam that all the Italian students of the course are going to sustain. It is in presence. You have to enter the Almaesami application and sign your name. You will receive the hour of your exam turn only when the exam list is closed for everyone (2 days before the exam date on Almaesami).

Only for exceptional situation you can sustain the exam on zoom. in that case you have to present a written documentation to the faculty secretary and to me.

The written Italian text is structured as follows:

--> 12 cross/multiple choice questions: each correct answer is worth 2 points; only positive scores shall be awarded; this part is about the basic manual;

--> 1 short answer/: you are asked for a concise answer, one/ two words (the name of an author, the name of a theory, a specific concept): the correct answer is worth 3 points; only positive scores shall be given; this part is about the basic manual.

--> 1 open question: you are asked for an articulated response and, if possible, you are invited to make connections between concepts; This part deals with the supplementary item "Salute and "Alcol e stile giovane"; the maximum expected score shall be 4 points with the relevance of the answer; normally there is a track that guides the path of the response.

*** Erasmus students must contact me directly and in clear advance to agree programme&examination
