Course contents

Dialectics, philosophy, critique.

Karl Marx's thought and some marxist interpretations in XX century

The course focuses on Karl Marx, in particular on his philosophical, historical, political theory and on Marx's critique of political economy.

In the second half of the lecture will be examined two of the most important and significant twentieth-century interpretations of Marx's thought: the dialectical one of György Lukács (with specific reference to History and Class Consciousness) and the structuralist one of Louis Althusser (For Marx).

Particular attention will be paid to the relationship between dialectical methode and philosophy of history, and to the different approaches in the marxism of XX century, with regard to the historical, cultural and philosophical context.

Workshop

The course will include an integrative workshop. In this workshop lessons will be given by, amongst others, four of the most important scholars of twentieth century historical-philosophical, philosophical-political and juridical-philosophical thought: Professor Vittorio Morfino (University of Milan-Bicocca), Professor Lucio Cortella (Ca' Foscari University of Venice), Professor Geminello Preterossi (University of Salerno) and Professor Massimo Cacciari (The Vita-Salute San Raffaele University), who will lead lessons related to the themes of the course.

Students who participate in the four lessons (in person or online) will be entitled to prepare three, rather than four, critical texts for the final exam from those indicated at Point 2 of the reading list.

The lessons will take place on 23rd February, 2022, 29th March, 2022, 6th April, 2022, and 26th April, 2022 (during course hours).
