Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student knows:
- the main research approaches in the field of work psychology;
- the main theoretical orientations relating to issues of human resource management (recruitment, selection, placement, training);
- the relationships between individual-group-organization in the construction of their work;
- the skills that allow them to work in a team with other professionals.

Course contents

Main topics covered during the course:

- The psychological study of work
- Working today: need for a new psychological contract
- Psychological link between the individual and work
- The worker and his duties
- Psychology, health and safety in the workplace
- Labor costs and revenues
- Abnormal and counterproductive work conduct
- The recruitment and selection of personnel
- Staff training and development
- The career today
- Theory and methods for career anchors
- Development of people inside and outside organizations
- Organizational well-being
- Stress and burn-out

These topics will also be treated with a view to inclusive and sustainable industrialization, multiculturalism, innovation and diversity management as indicated by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The different topics will be presented first from a theoretical-conceptual point of view. Subsequently, for each of them, the empirical evidence available will be examined that testifies its relevance for individuals and organizations; organizational cases will be presented for the main topics of a strictly applicative nature.

Teaching methods

The main method will be the traditional lecture.

Classroom discussions will be proped on the basis of the reading of scientific articles and the viewing of videos on topics related to the course. In addition there will be speeches by external guests, experts in the topics of the course.

Assessment methods

Written examination based on 40 multiple choice questions. The multiple choice questions are composed either of four or five different response alternatives. The time available for the final examination is 30 minutes.

Foreign students (e.g. Erasmus students) are highly recommended to contact the lecturer to discuss the possibility of undertaking an oral examination in English language.

Students with disabilities (e.g., learning disablities) are invited to contact the lecturer to explore the possibility of a different assessment method that considers their personal difficulties.
