Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: - knows the basics of clinical psychology: educating to the relationship - knows the stressful events in the life cycle - knows the psychic conflict and psychic disorders - knows the psychological development of the individual in the evolutionary arc - knows the modalities communicative information that can be used with the patient in developmental age, with the adult and family patient - knows the characteristics of the clinical interview in the health sector.

Course contents

The course is part of the Integrated Course "INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS: THE PSYCHOPEDAGOGICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL PROSPECTIVE", composed of 3 modules: Developmental and Educational Psychology, General Psychology, and Clinical Psychology.

The course will address the following selected topics useful to allow future Professional Educators to understand the fundamental aspects of Clinical Psychology.

In detail, the following topics will be explored during the lectures:

- Definition of Clinical Psychology and areas of application.

- Causality and risk factors in understanding mental health problems.

- The main models of the mind in psychopathology.

- The theory of attachment: interpersonal relationships and psychological development, the strange situation and the attachment style. Mentalization.

- The importance of attachment between the Professional Educator and the assisted person.

- Stressful and traumatic events and their impact on psychological development.

- Psychological flexibility as a resource of resilience.

Readings/Bibliography

The lectures, supplemented by the materials provided during the classes, are considered necessary for exam preparation. It is not necessary to purchase specific textbooks.

The didactic material and references to recommended textbooks will be available through the platform Virtuale.

Teaching methods

The lectures will be held in presence. The course consists of 6 frontal lectures of 4 hours each for a total of 24 hours. The contents of the program will be presented with examples of clinical cases, exercises, use of videos and moments of discussion.

Any changes due to the health emergency will be promptly communicated during the course.

Assessment methods

The Integrated Course "INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS: THE PSYCHOPEDAGICAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND CLINICAL PROSPECTIVE" provides that each module has a final exam with a grade ranging from 18 to 30. The passing of the 3 exams will result in a final grade consisting of the rounded average of the 3 grades obtained (rounded to the nearest whole number). Summa cum laude is added to the final grade if the student obtains 30 on each exams and at least one summa cum laude in one of the three exams.

The final exam of the Clinical Psychology module is aimed at evaluating the learning of the main models of the mind to understand, manage, and improve the relationship between the health care provider and the client. The evaluation will be held through an oral examination (about 15-20 minutes), consisting of 3 questions, which are assigned a score from 0 to 10 each.

The final grade will follow the following criteria:

- preparation on a limited number of topics in the program and analysis skills highlighted with the help of the professor, overall use of correct language. grade 18-19;

- preparation on a limited number of topics and mainly autonomous analysis skills, use of correct language. grade 20-24;

- preparation on a large number of topics, critical analysis skills, command of terminology. grade 25-29;

- exhaustive preparation on the topics, ability of critical analysis and connection, argumentation and self-reflection, excellent command of terminology. grade 30-30L

There is also an IN ITINERE TEST consisting of 31 multiple-choice questions (for each question, four answers to choose from) lasting 45 minutes. The correct answer to 31 questions corresponds to a grade of 30 and summa cum laude.
