70021 - Cognitive Social Psychology.

Course contents

The course present and discuss two main topics. One is related to how digital media influence our cognitions, affects and behaviours. The second part focuses on the role of digital media in reproducing gender inequalities. 

The following issues are considered: 

- self and identities in digital contexts

- digital technologu and social relations

- online anti-social and pro-social behaviours

- digital media and social influence (conformity, fake news, minority influence, social activism)

- prejudice reduction through online contact

- stereotypes and discrimination in social network sites

- objectification and its personal and social consequences

- masculinity, discrimination and violence

Teaching methods

Students will be asked to read the topics before classes. During classes the topics will be briefly explained by the teacher to leave space for discussion, specific deepenings and ranges of application.

Assessment methods

The final exams is in writte form. Three open questions: two on theoretical issues and one on a critical discussion of a specific case. 

Students who comes to classes can prepare and present a work-group or can write and individual essay on a topic discusses with the teacher. This assignements will be evaluated from 0 to 10 points and allow to skip the question related to discussion of a specific case.

The ppt of the lessons will be uploaded on Virtuale in accordance with copyright norms.
