Learning outcomes

Knowledge of the italian and european technical drawing's rules for the representation of mechanical components.

Course contents

Conventional instruments for drawing. Lines and a nomenclatures unified. Choice of sizes and scales.
Computer tools for drawing. Hardware description and the main devices. Architecture of a CAD system. Functions performed by the software.
The method of the orthogonal projections.
Sections and interpenetration of solids.
Norms and conventions in technical drawing. General criteria for dimensioning. Renard numbers. Assembly drawings (in total) and of particular designs. Functional dimensioning.
Conventional representation of mechanical elements with particular reference to the standardized use in chemistry plants (threads, riveting, welding, flanges, pressure vessels, piping, couplings, etc..).Principato, Milano. - AutoCAD Handbook. - Slides and booklets about lessons, available at the portal AMS Campus in the specific section of the course.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 3 credits, CFU, in which they are also integrated theory lessons, that relate to the basic rules of the industrial technical drawing to guarantee the student to have all the necessary tools to realize two-dimensional drawings, according to Italian and European regulations.

To the theory lessons follow practical exercises to give to students the basic instructions for using the two-dimensional CAD software Autocad. Assistance to students is provided in the preparation of mechanical drawings using the software.

Assessment methods

The examination at the end of the course aims at assessing the achievement of educational objectives:

• Basic knowledge of mechanical design according to Italian and European regulations
• Knowledge of the software Autocad and its use
• Use of Autocad for the drafting of mechanical drawings according to regulations

The exam consists of a graphical test, accompanied by a verification of the theory. The graphical test is performed by drawing simple mechanical components with the same CAD program used for exercises during the course and a question concerning the theory treated in class has to be answered.

The verbalization of the outcome of the test is bound to the presentation and discussion of the drawings produced during the course of the lessons.

Teaching tools

Lessons will be held in a computer lab, under the direct guidance of the teacher, whiere PCs are available to the student to make the CAD drawings, using AUTOCAD software.

Each student is given the opportunity to install the software on his PC, with academic license authorized.
