Learning outcomes

The student should recognize the main characteristics of virus, bacteria, protozoa and  helminths that are responsible for tropical infections, their transmission routes, the pathogenic mechanisms and the main diagnostic methods for identification of these microorganisms.

Course contents

 

-  Leishmaniasis

-  Arthropod-borne viral infections: Zika virus, Dengue virus and Chikungunya virus

-  Intestinal helminthiasis (geo-helminths)

-  Schistosomiasis

-  Filariasis

-  Parasitic infections of immunocompromised hosts
