70211 - Architectural Drawing and Graphic Analysis

Academic Year 2018/2019

  • Moduli: Fabrizio Ivan Apollonio (Modulo 1) Federico Fallavollita (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 0881)

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students acquire the knowledge to analyze, to decompose and to represent the complexity and articulation of an architectural project. Through the knowledge gained, students can then use the drawing as a graphic language aimed at study, analysis and presentation of the creative process of architectural design and they will be able to define its development till its implementation phase. The architectural drawing imeant as a graphic language aimed at the study, analysis and production of the architectural project, from its conception to its execution.

Course contents

Scientific-disciplinary contents of the course will concern the representation of architecture and environment as a cognitive and communicative medium in relation to the topological, figurative and formal structure of architectural and urban reality. It will be carried out an assessment of its effectiveness as a tool for the preliminary analysis of the existing context and of the overall message of planning. It is foreseen the explanation of the features of Design seen as a global tool of communication and as a graphic language applied to the communication of the planning process, from its conception to its execution, as a tool for the functional, geometric and spatial analysis of buildings and as an approach to the communication of building systems: representation and forms of elements and materials for architecture.

Theoretical and methodological contents of the course will be communicated by means of classroom lessons integrated with seminars and practices.

Practices will consist of graphic activities on the themes chosen by every single student and by groups of students and are aimed at deepening and experimenting the contents of lessons and seminars. Some individual tables will be developed aiming at documenting experiences of planning representations about themes linked to the History of Architecture.

Teaching methods

The course will be carried out by means of classroom lessons and practices. Theoretical lessons will deal with program topics - by means of notifications, seminars and presentation of study cases - with specific applications to general and/or particular cases. Practices will have the purpose of applying representation techniques to the themes under close examination, as a language for the display of architecture. Exercise tables are subject to a specific assessment. All tables assigned during the course must be produced in order to sit for the examination.

Assessment methods

The approval and production of individual and/or group exercise works is a prerequisite and a necessary condition for the admittance to the examination. The examination consists of a written test and an oral test, consisting of the discussion and assessment of individual works.

Teaching tools

Some classroom lessons useful for the cognitive and planning activity and seminars for checking the work carried out by students divided into groups.
Basic bibliographic, graphic and documental material relating to the themes studied will be made available to students at the beginning of the course.
