Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, students will have acquired the essential knowledge needed for the optimal clinical management of patients with cancer. In particular, they will learn about the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of neoplastic diseases, with detailed coverage of the most common cancers.
The course will review key advances in our molecular understanding of cancer development. It will also cover the main treatments used in medical oncology, from established approaches such as chemotherapy and hormone therapy to newer approaches such as targeted therapy and immunotherapy. Students will learn how these treatments are sequenced and integrated with radiotherapy, other locoregional treatments, and surgery.
Finally, the course complements the strong humanistic component of the palliative care curriculum.
