Learning outcomes

At the end of the laboratory, the student:

  • is able to work independently in applying the specific techniques acquired, either autonomously or within projects organized by institutions;
  • is able to engage with others in discussing the methods for using and documenting the techniques learned;
  • is able to place the specific knowledge acquired within different types of services and professional settings;
  • is able to evaluate the strengths and limitations of the technical tools and methodologies learned;
  • is able to transfer the technologies and techniques acquired to different contexts, adapting and enriching them through personal modifications and integrations.

 

Course contents

The laboratory focuses on the main observation techniques, including narrative descriptions, coding schemes, checklists, rating scales, and questionnaires. A selection of observational tools that students can use in professional practice will be presented, providing valuable opportunities for their academic and professional development. Both the general characteristics of the observational method and the use of these instruments will be explored through practical exercises, enabling students to apply and develop their observational skills.

Teaching methods

During the laboratory, practical exercises will be carried out through the presentation of video recordings and the analysis of observation protocols.

These practical activities are essential for understanding observation techniques through their direct application, while also encouraging discussion of the challenges encountered, as well as the strengths and limitations of each observational method.

Assessment methods

Assessment of learning will be based on the evaluation of the practical exercises related to the various observation techniques presented during the course and completed by students throughout the laboratory. The final assessment will be on a pass/fail basis.

Students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) or temporary or permanent disabilities: students are encouraged to contact the University's designated support office in good time (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it ). The office will propose any appropriate accommodations for the students concerned. Such accommodations must, however, be submitted to the course instructor for approval at least 15 days in advance. The instructor will assess their suitability in relation to the intended learning outcomes of the course.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be a useful tool to support independent study by providing opportunities for further exploration, summarization, and self-assessment. However, with regard to the assessment of learning, the use of AI during in-person examinations is prohibited. Any use of AI in this context constitutes a violation of academic integrity.
