C8807 - SEMINARIO DI ANALISI POLITICA (1) (LM) (G.A)

Academic Year 2026/2027

Learning outcomes

The seminar selects and discusses some of the most important contemporary political issues, with presentations, analysis, and materials from academic literature, the Italian and international press, the media. By the end of the seminar, students: - will have developed a critical understanding of these issues; - will be able to make informed judgements about how these issues are covered in the media.

Course contents

The workshop analyses and explores the public and political discourse on climate change. In each appointment some fundamental concepts of ecological discourse will be critically reconstructed, focusing on topics such as a) the meaning of nature; b) the relationship between ecology and capitalism; c) what is meant by environmental policies; d) how environmental disasters and catastrophes are defined; e) what forms environmental activism takes; f) what is environmental racism; g) what is meant by ecological transition; h) what is the Green New Deal; what is Ecofeminism.

The workshop will have an eminently seminar-like character. Scientific materials, normative texts and newspaper articles will be used to understand the way in which the national and international press - both in news and commentary - describes and analyses the environmental issue in its social and political implications.
