Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, the student: - is able to apply the topics covered in the integrated course within a simulated learning environment; - is able to reflect critically in a group setting on the topics discussed.

Course contents

DEEP ECOLOGY WORKSHOP

The workshop programme “The Work That Reconnects”, devised by the eco-psychologist, philosopher and scholar of living systems Joanna Macy and her colleagues, will be offered.

“The Work That Reconnects” aims to process the difficult emotions generated by the eco-climate crisis and the many forms of injustice associated with it (such as fear, anger, sadness, guilt and a sense of powerlessness), and then, building on these, to rediscover our interconnectedness with the web of life and cultivate forms of active hope. The aim is to transform the emotions and sense of interconnectedness that may emerge during the practices into a source of energy and motivation capable of sparking and sustaining collaborative action.

The primary objective of the workshop is not to provide teaching practices that can be immediately applied in early years education settings, but rather to offer participants a space for personal reflection and growth. This stems from the belief that the way we address eco-climate issues with children depends crucially on the attitudes that educators have developed in this regard.

The workshop is structured as a spiral-shaped journey comprising four stages: 1) coming from gratitude, 2) honouring our pain for the world, 3) seeing with new eyes, 4) moving forward towards action.

Each stage forms part of a single programme that is best completed in its entirety; therefore, it is recommended that you attend all sessions of the workshop (if you have any special requirements, please email pietro.corazza@unibo.it)
