Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, the student: - is able to apply the topics covered in the integrated course within a simulated learning environment; - is able to reflect critically in a group setting on the topics discussed.

Course contents

PHILOSOPHICAL DIALOGUE WITH CHILDREN

The workshop will provide a space to experience the ‘Philosophy for/with Children and Communities’ (P4wC) approach, which aims to train facilitators capable of stimulating and supporting philosophical dialogue with groups of people of all ages, including from early childhood onwards. P4wC aims to support the development of various forms of thinking: critical thinking, creative thinking, caring thinking and collaborative thinking.

The P4wC approach is based on a conception of philosophy not as a set of theories or concepts, but as a living practice that begins with asking good questions and engaging in dialogue together based on them. Each P4wC session begins with the group engaging with a stimulus (a text, an image, a picture book, a physical experience, etc.), from which participants are invited to formulate the open-ended questions that arise in their minds. Subsequently, all the questions raised are collected and the group decides together which question or questions to focus on: a dialogue is then developed around these.

Teaching methods

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to take part in various P4wC sessions led by the tutor. There will also be opportunities for discussion and meta-analytical reflection on the methodology, as well as the chance for some volunteer students to try their hand at leading a philosophical session.
