Course contents
The lab Family Communication: Everyday Interactions between Parents and Children focuses on the communicative and interactive processes that shape daily family life. Specifically, the lab aims to develop students' skills in observing and evaluating social interaction within the family and domestic context. Special emphasis will be placed on parent-child interactions during daily family routines, such as mealtimes or bedtime storytelling.
Following an introduction to family communication dynamics and tools for analyzing social interaction, the lab will focus on the observation, analysis, and discussion of video recordings and transcriptions of real-life conversations in everyday family settings.
Students will be invited to participate in group work and hands-on workshop activities designed to foster their understanding of the interactive dynamics and educational phenomena that characterize daily communicative exchanges. Particular attention will be placed on translating these observational and evaluative skills into practical tools for the daily professional practice of early childhood educators.
The course is taught primarily in Italian but welcomes international students interested in the topics covered. Throughout the workshop, materials and interaction methods will be provided to ensure the active participation of students with limited Italian language proficiency.
