Learning outcomes

The course aims to explore the ways and forms of the permanence of the classical tradition in the visual arts. Through the analysis of specific case studies, it considers how classical iconographic models have been used from the late Middle Ages to the contemporary. At the end of the course, students will be able to use classical literary sources for the study and interpretation of art; they will have knowledge of classical tradition and mythology, and their cultural, symbolic, and narrative codes, and will be able identify their persistence in the imaginary, in the history of culture, and in the history of ideas; they will be able to employ myth as an effective framework of meaning for the decoding of iconographic forms and for cultural heritage storytelling strategies, aimed at enhancing cognitive and social accessibility within the context of museum communication.
