Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the training programme, the student:
- Is familiar with the main counselling techniques used by school psychologists in their professional practice
- Is familiar with professional ethics and the ways in which to define and uphold the professional image of the school psychologist
- Is able to respond to the wide range of demands arising from the current complexity of the school system.
- Be able to use up-to-date, recent and innovative tools and methodologies in line with DigComp and DigCompEdu.
Course contents
The course will cover the following topics:
- what counselling in schools entails and what the key models are
- counselling for the various stakeholders in the education system
- theories, methods and tools for counselling in schools:
- Activity Theory for assessing the impact of educational projects
- the Change Laboratory Method for promoting change
- from the SocioGram to Social Network Analysis: analysing relationships at school
- Soft skills, DigComp and DigComp Edu
- How to safeguard one’s professional image: in person and online.

Assessment methods
The final assessment consists of the presentation of a research project, based on the guidelines provided by the lecturers, in which the student must demonstrate:
- the ability to develop an intervention project within a school context;
- the feasibility of the proposed project;
- how and why the concepts, theories and methodologies presented during the course are more or less effective in achieving the project’s objectives;
- the limitations and potential of the proposed project.
Teaching tools
Slides and videos will be used during the lectures. The slides will be made available to students on the University’s Virtual Campus web platform once a topic has been covered in class.
