Learning outcomes

The student acquires knowledge regarding the evolution of key organizational forms and theories within workplace settings. By the end of the course, the student understands the roles and responsibilities of strategic and middle management in the organizational design of prevention measures. Furthermore, the student learns the methodologies and tools to effectively manage, in synergy with other healthcare and non-healthcare professions, systems based on prevention and health promotion within a "One Health" framework.

Course contents

Regulatory framework

-Mandatory: Italian Constitution, National Health Plan, Regional Health Plan (Emilia-Romagna), National Prevention Plan, Regional Prevention Plan (Emilia-Romagna), Local Implementation Plans.

-Voluntary: UNI EN ISO 19011/2018, UNI EN ISO 9001/2015, UNI EN ISO 14001/2015, UNI EN ISO 45001/2023.

General framework

-Organizational structure;

-Strategic objectives and organizational architectures;

-Fundamental elements of the organizational structure.

Process-based approach

-Process management and governance;

-The Deming Cycle;

-Measurement system;

-The FMEA-FMECA method.

Standards and norms for quality assurance management: UNI EN ISO 19011/2018 and UNI EN ISO 9001:2015

-Quality Management System;

-Management responsibility;

Fundamentals for the transition from total quality to integrated quality aimed at competitive advantage:

-Creation of a standard model for integrating quality, environmental, and safety management systems.

Corporate governance of Public Health Departments within Local Health Authorities (Emilia-Romagna)

-Budget negotiation processes;

-Planning and implementation processes for prevention activities, with particular focus on inspection activities;

-Regional accreditation model. Corporate governance of the Regional Prevention Plan (Emilia-Romagna)

-Historical background and founding principles regarding the concepts of prevention, health promotion, health education, and brief motivational counseling;

-Corporate policy;

-Steering committee;

-Interfaces and communication;

-Inter-sectoral agreements with third-sector entities;

-Cross-cutting actions (primarily training for healthcare and prevention professionals on promoting healthy lifestyles through strategies to motivate change) and program-specific actions (primarily PP01 and PP02);

Teaching methods

Frontal and interactive lessons, supplementary and remedial activities on topics covered, analysis and in-depth analysis of real cases.

Assessment methods

The learning assessment will focus on an oral test with questions on the topics covered in class, as well as the presentation and discussion of a project work on a topic of prevention or health promotion or health education inspired by the holistic One Health vision.

The request must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the instructor, who will evaluate the adequacy of the measures, taking into account the learning objectives.
