Learning outcomes
During the course, the student will learn the fundamental concepts of landscape ecology, within the natural and cultural diversity of landscape, seascape and islandscape. The student will explore innivative global concepts in the field through both synchronic and diachronic approaches. The synchronic approach will enable the student, during field excursions and group exercises, to observe, perceive, classify and analyse landscapes and seascapes. The diachronic approach will allow the student to understand the ecological and cultural evolution of landscape through past, present and future. In this way, the student will acquire methodologies of landscape/seascape history, current character assessment and future design and planning, linked to Italian and international case studies. Students will also deepen their understanding of the ecological landscape dimension complexity through ecosystem and cultural services, ecological and biocultural networks, greenways and green/blue infrastructures, participatory approaches to nature-based solutions, as well as the contribution of landscape ecology to land management and governance, and to the new perspectives on nature conservation and sustainable development.
