Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: - knows the main concepts and theoretical approaches for the organizational analysis; - knows the main concepts for the analysis of professions, jobs, and tasks; - knows and can understand the features of the Italian labour market; - can analyze the transformations of work in contemporary society; - knows how to analyze the processes of work organizations; - knows how to analyze the processes of socialization in organizational contexts.

Course contents

In the first part of the course, following an introduction to what it means to study the labour market from a sociological perspective, the data sources and indicators used for labour market analysis will be presented. We will then examine unemployment and labour market policies, looking in particular at the Italian case.

The second part of the course will focus on the key concepts and theoretical approaches used to study organizations, including topics such as organizational structure, the environment, organizational culture, and organizations as processes.

Teaching methods

The course adopts the blended learning approach established by the Second Cycle Degree Programme, integrating face-to-face and online activities to foster active student participation and provide continuous support for the development of knowledge, skills, and competencies. The learning pathway combines classroom lectures and activities with guided asynchronous online tasks, accompanied by formative feedback from the lecturer, as well as synchronous online sessions for discussion and support. This teaching approach is designed to respond more effectively to students' learning needs by promoting continuous and meaningful interaction throughout the course. The blended learning model supports access to learning, encourages active participation, and provides opportunities for remediation, consolidation, and further development of acquired competencies. Two e-Tivities will be assigned with the aim of enabling students to apply key concepts in labour market analysis and organizational analysis. More specifically, e-Tivity 1 is designed to develop students' ability to interpret labour market data. E-tivity 2 focuses on the application of key concepts from the sociology of organizations through a case study. The e-tivities will be made available on the Virtuale platform a few weeks before the start of the lecturers.

Assessment methods

The exam is written with 2 open-ended questions (60 minutes).The questions aim above all at verifying the acquisition of the knowledge and the application of knowledge, the ability to understand and think critically. The exam will be assessed taking into account the above-mentioned aspects as well as the organisation and completeness of the content.

 

The e-tivities are a compulsory component of the course and contribute to the final assessment. Each e-tivity is worth a maximum of 2 marks. The total score obtained in the e-tivities contributes to the final course grade, expressed on a 30-point scale, together with the mark awarded for the written examination.

The submission deadline for students wishing to take part in the in-class discussion of the e-tivities will be announced on the Virtuale platform. Otherwise, the e-tivities must be submitted at least 20 days before the examination session in which the student intends to take the exam.

Students who do not complete or submit the e-tivities within the deadlines agreed with the lecturer (for example, students taking the examination in an academic year other than that in which the course is delivered, or students who fail to meet the prescribed deadlines), and in any case by the final examination session of the academic year, may be required to undertake additional study. This supplementary work, to be agreed with the lecturer together with the examination arrangements, may consist of the study of additional readings, consultation of further learning materials, or the completion of written assignments and/or other in-depth learning activities.

However, the use of AI is NOT allowed.

 

To take the exam, students must register in Alma Esami (https://almaesami.unibo.it/almaesami/welcome.htm). Please note that for written exam registrations close one week before the exam date.

The exam result is communicated to the student by Almaesami; students can accept or refuse the score within the terms provided by the University Didactic Regulations. Once the deadline has passed, the lectuter will record the grades (tacit acceptance procedure).
