Learning outcomes

Students will acquire the knowledge and skills required to apply the recording techniques of the different types of Evoked Potentials (EPs), selecting the appropriate methodology according to the diagnostic question. They will also become familiar with the characteristics of the recording equipment and the various methods of patient stimulation.

Course contents

Evoked Potentials (EPs): definition, basic concepts, instrumentation, acquisition techniques, and clinical applications.

  • Visual Evoked Potentials (VEPs) (flash and pattern-reversal): electrode montage, stimulation methods, recording parameters, identification of waveform components, analysis, and neurological interpretation.
  • Electroretinogram (ERG): electrode montage, stimulation techniques, and identification of waveform components.
  • Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SEPs): electrode montage, stimulation methods, recording parameters, identification of waveform components, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEPs): electrode montage, stimulation methods, recording parameters, identification of waveform components, analysis, and neurological interpretation.
  • Motor Evoked Potentials (MEPs): electrode montage, stimulation methods, recording parameters, identification of waveform components, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) or Cognitive Evoked Potentials: electrode montage, stimulation methods, recording parameters, and identification of waveform components.
  • Innovative techniques: Laser Evoked Potentials (LEPs) and Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMPs).
