Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the activity, the student will have acquired the skills associated with the analytical processes involved in the theoretical and practical laboratory work regarding occupational health and safety.

Course contents

The program will be based on regulations regarding workplace health and safety, with particular reference to the role of the Biomedical Laboratory Technician.

The following key topics will be covered in depth:

1. Legislative Decree 81/08: liability aspects, risk assessment, and general protective measures.

2. PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and CPE (Collective Protective Equipment).

3. Fire and explosion prevention; emergency management (including earthquakes and flooding).

4. Use of work equipment; VDT (Visual Display Terminal) exposure.

5. Workplace environment and air quality, microclimate, lighting, noise and vibration, electrical hazards, radon risk, safety signage, and manual handling of loads.

6. REACH and CLP regulations; exposure to chemical agents (including carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic substances), cryogenic liquids, antineoplastic drugs, and pressurized equipment.

7. Exposure to biological agents: basic safety measures and emergency procedures for control and containment.

8. Overview of work-related stress.

9. Overview of waste disposal.

10. Overview of risk assessment for pregnant workers and new mothers.

Teaching methods

Frontal and interactive lessons, supplementary and remedial activities on topics covered, analysis and in-depth analysis of real cases.

Assessment methods

The assessment of eligibility will be conducted via an oral exam.

Access to the exam will be permitted only to students who have attended 100% of the class hours.
