Learning outcomes
The course provides students with the theoretical and practical tools to learn about the development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in the context of education/training, with a particular focus on the possibilities for teaching and communicating science. At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the following skills: a. knowledge of educational technologies in relation to the use of educational software, learning management platforms (LMS), scientific visualisation tools and augmented reality (AR) technologies in education; b. design online and blended learning solutions integrating digital and AI technologies, in particular for science education, using distance learning techniques and blended methods c. analyse AI-based educational applications with reference to AI-based educational software, such as virtual assistants, personalised tutoring systems and predictive learning analytics d. understand the ethical aspects of the use of digital technologies through critical analysis of use cases, with particular reference to personal data and the management of bias in algorithms e. design creative and innovative solutions for science teaching and communication using new AI technologies to make learning more interactive, engaging and motivating.
Course contents
The course explores the role of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in teaching and learning processes, with particular emphasis on education, science communication, and museum and scientific heritage contexts.
The course covers the following topics:
- Theoretical foundations of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence in educational contexts.
- Analysis of the theoretical and methodological models that support the integration of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence into instructional mediation processes.
- AI literacy competences for the informed, critical, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in educational contexts.
- AI-based tools and platforms for the design, management, and assessment of teaching and learning activities.
- Strategies for science communication and educational mediation in science museums and cultural heritage contexts.
- Digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence for museum education, communication, and the enhancement of cultural and scientific heritage.
- Analysis of case studies on digital innovation and the use of Artificial Intelligence in science museums.
- Design of educational pathways in physical, virtual, and hybrid learning environments.
