Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide students detailed knowledge concerning the principles and the methodology of assessment of range of motion and muscle strength as essential elements to:
- accurate assessment of the state of a subject;
- its improviments;
- Effectiveness program of physical training.
At the end of the course the student will have strong skills concerning the assessment of the range of motion on different joints and the methodologies to measure each joint movement and will also be able to perform the test regarding muscle strength in different postures and attitudes.

Principles and methods to evaluate the muscle strength
Principles of anatomy and evaluation (range of motion and muscle strengh) of the following anatomical:
- Head, neck, trunk;
- Shoulder;
- Elbow and forearm;
- Hip;
- Knee;

- Ankle

Osteoarthrosis and hip and knee prosthesis.

The teaching materials made available online and the notes taken during lectures are essential.

It is recommended not to print the materials well in advance of the corresponding lectures, as the instructor may make changes to them.

Practical laboratories and case discussions

Practical exercises in the gym

The course includes lectures delivered in the gym, complemented by practical laboratories, case discussions, practical exercises, and technical–practical activities.

Given the nature of the teaching activities and methods adopted, all students are required to complete Modules 1 and 2 of the University’s health and safety training in e-learning format before participating in this course: https://www.unibo.it/it/servizi-e-opportunita/salute-e-assistenza/salute-e-sicurezza/sicurezza-e-salute-nei-luoghi-di-studio-e-tirocinio . Students must also attend Module 3, which provides specific training on health and safety in study environments. Information regarding the dates and attendance procedures for Module 3 is available in the dedicated section of the degree programme website.

Assessment methods

The final examination will consist of an oral interview, during which the student will discuss two/three topic from those covered in the course.

During the interview, additional questions will be asked to assess:

• the depth of understanding of the chosen topic;

• the knowledge of other topics covered in the course;

• the ability to establish logical-deductive connections between different subjects;

• the overall and integrated understanding of the course content.

Final Grade Criteria:

• 18–19: knowledge of a very limited number of topics; analytical skills demonstrated only with support from the examiner; overall correct language use.

• 20–24: knowledge of a limited number of topics; autonomous analytical skills limited to procedural tasks; correct language use.

• 25–29: broad knowledge of the course topics; ability to conduct independent critical analysis; good command of subject-specific terminology.

• 30: comprehensive preparation on all course topics; strong autonomy in critical thinking and ability to make connections between concepts; full mastery of subject-specific language and strong argumentative and reflective skills.

• 30 with honors: integrated and critical understanding of the course topics; ability to make complex interdisciplinary connections; excellent command of language and terminology, with advanced expressive and analytical abilities.

The office will propose any appropriate accommodations for eligible students. Such accommodations must be submitted to the instructor for approval at least 15 days in advance. The instructor will assess their suitability in relation to the learning objectives of the course. 

 

Calculation of the Final Grade for the Integrated Course (IC):
The final grade will be calculated as the weighted mathematical average of the grades obtained in each module, based on the number of credits (ECTS) assigned to each.

Oral examination.

All tests are in-person. Please note that the online mode will be activated in case of emergency by communication from the University of Bologna

Students are nor required to skip exam sessions. In case of failure, students can sit the exam again during any of the following sessions.

In order to take the exam, students must register via Alma Esami, in compliance with mandatory deadlines

There are eight rounds during the academic year: 4 in January / February, 4in June / July and 2 in September. Sometime there is a round in December.

The date, time and place of the written tests are indicated on the Almaesami site.

Registration is compulsory. The lists on Almaesami close two days before the beginning of each session.

 

With regard to assessment, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) is prohibited. Any use of AI constitutes a violation of academic integrity.
