Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the students will have gained a thorough perspective of the main aspects of the knowledge and technological transfer from the oil and gas to the renewable energy sector, focusing on the construction, installation, maintenance and decommissioning of offshore equipment, structures and infrastructures, via workshops, laboratories and seminars. From the standpoint of the Italian market, the course is entirely taught in Italian, with the support of local industries.
Course contents
The course consists of a series of thematic seminars focusing on the latest developments and applications in offshore engineering, delivered by experts from industry, academia, and professional practice. The seminars present case studies, innovative technologies, and engineering challenges related to major offshore infrastructures, with particular emphasis on the energy sector, marine structures, and subsea installations.
Depending on the invited speakers, the topics may include the design and installation of offshore foundations, submarine pipelines and power cables, fixed and floating platforms, mooring systems, offshore wind farms, offshore geotechnical site characterization, structural health monitoring, asset integrity management, technological innovation, sustainability, and the energy transition.
The course also includes educational activities conducted in Italian in collaboration with OMC – Med Energy Conference & Exhibition, aimed at exploring current topics in offshore engineering and providing students with direct exposure to the professional and industrial environment.
The course is intended to provide students with an up-to-date overview of current engineering practice and the technological challenges facing the offshore industry, while promoting interaction with professionals, companies, and research organizations operating at both the national and international levels.
An additional objective of the course is to enable international and non-native Italian-speaking students to become familiar with the technical terminology used in the Italian offshore engineering sector, thereby facilitating their integration into the Italian professional and industrial environment.

The reference literature and supplementary teaching materials will be provided directly by the seminar speakers, according to the topics covered and their respective areas of expertise.
Teaching methods
The teaching methods will be defined according to the scheduled seminars and planned educational activities. The course is primarily based on specialist seminars delivered by experts from industry, research institutions, and professional practice, and may be complemented by case study presentations and discussion sessions with students. Additional educational activities may be organized within the framework of OMC – Med Energy Conference & Exhibition, depending on the conference programme and the organization of the course.
Assessment methods
Assessment consists of the preparation and delivery, in Italian, of an oral presentation on a topic selected from those covered during the course. The presentation is intended to assess the student's ability to understand and critically discuss the technical content presented in the seminars, to use the technical terminology of offshore engineering appropriately in Italian, and to communicate the key technical aspects of the selected topic clearly and effectively.
