Learning outcomes
By the end of the course, the student is able to structure an economic analysis of livestock and veterinary companies and contextualise the results to the dynamics of the sector. In particular, the student: knows the basic concepts of macro and microeconomic analysis with focus on the livestock sector; knows the main social and political aspects of the livestock sector in the light of global and European strategies; knows the principles of the circular economy applied to the animal production sector and the principles of evaluating externalities produced by livestock systems; knows the basic concepts of organisation and management in veterinary business economics; is able to independently analyse the components of the extended livestock supply chain; is able to analyse the impact of business decisions on the basis of profitability and economic efficiency indices and make economic judgements that also take ethical and environmental aspects into account; is able to recognise the influence of global zootechnical strategies, with particular attention to European zootechnical policies; is able to apply the concepts of clinic and farm economic management; is able to communicate the results of analyses to public and private stakeholders.
