Learning outcomes
At the end of the module the student will be able to approach the drawing, applying different techniques of representation, as a tool for investigation, knowledge, restitution and / or design of the architecture of the city and landscape.
Course contents
The Laboratorio di Progettazione Architettonica I consists, in addition to the module/teaching characterizing Architettura and Composizione Architettonica I, a module/teaching of Caratteri Distributivi degli Edifici I and a module/teaching of Disegno della Città e del Paesaggio.
In the latter, the processes and tools of representation will be taken into consideration as acts that cannot be separated from the purpose of architectural design. This perspective finds confirmation and theoretical reason in the constant role that drawing has had in the work of the masters of the past, and not only, highlighting the centrality of the analysis/project relationship.
We will try, therefore, to make the student acquire a progressive manual ability in the use of the simplest graphic techniques through the exercise of freehand drawing and stroke, also paying attention to the perception / representation of color.
The works / exercises must be understood as a series of "thresholds" of the path recorded, in the form of notes and drawings, on a notebook that must be kept constantly updated; At the end of the module/course, the student must be able to observe, analyze, read and represent, with the appropriate methods and tools, the aspects characterizing the specific field of architecture, city and landscape itself.

Teaching methods
Lectures on the general aspects of "drawing from life", accompanied by examples of masters who have used this tool as a central factor of their practical and theoretical activity; lessons on the operational methodology of "freehand drawing" and therefore from life to be carried out both in the classroom and outside - en-plein-air - lessons on drawing for the architectural project.
Assessment methods
The Laboratorio di progettazione Architettonicamente I (Integrated Course, 14 ECTS, 192 contact hours) consists of the core Architectural Design and Composition I course (8 ECTS, 120 contact hours), the Building Layout and Functional Design I module (4 ECTS, 40 contact hours), and the Urban and Landscape Drawing module (2 ECTS, 20 contact hours).
The final examination consists of a single integrated assessment covering the learning outcomes of all the teaching activities included in the Studio. Assessment is based on the evaluation of the design project developed during the course, the practical exercises completed throughout the academic year, and the student's knowledge and critical understanding of the theoretical topics addressed in the different course components.
18–20 (Pass):
Very limited critical analysis of the case studies presented during the course; barely satisfactory quality of graphic drawings, physical models and freehand drawings; ability to justify design choices in a sufficiently logical manner.
21–25 (Fair/Good):
Limited critical analysis of the case studies presented during the course; satisfactory quality of graphic drawings, physical models and freehand drawings; ability to justify design choices in a coherent manner.
26–29 (Very Good):
Thorough analysis of the case studies presented during the course; good quality of graphic drawings, physical models and freehand drawings; ability to justify design choices consistently and with an appropriate level of critical awareness.
30–30 with honours:
Comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the case studies presented during the course; excellent quality of graphic drawings, physical models and freehand drawings; ability to justify design choices consistently, demonstrating full critical awareness and the capacity to develop original and independent insights.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) may be used as a valuable support tool for individual study, for example to facilitate further exploration of course topics, the preparation of summaries, and self-assessment activities.
With regard to the assessment of learning, only limited, declared, and non-substantive use of AI is permitted for support activities (e.g. summarising or rephrasing texts). Substantive use of AI in completing any part of the assessment is not permitted.
Students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) or temporary or permanent disabilities are encouraged to contact the relevant University Office well in advance (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it ). The Office will identify any appropriate accommodations for the student. Any proposed accommodations must be submitted to the Course Unit Coordinator at least 15 days before the examination and are subject to approval, taking into account the intended learning outcomes of the course.
Teaching tools
The lessons will take place with the use of graphic and photographic material presented in Power Point format; the teacher, using the document-camera, will propose exemplary sessions of drawing and graphic representation to support the techniques addressed; likewise, the teacher, working directly in the laboratory, will create a sort of "bottega" of exemplification and direct learning on the methods and techniques addressed. During the lessons, texts and bibliographies on specific topics related to the discipline will be cited and reported.Students use measuring instruments with regard to the survey of buildings and the relative graphic restitution that will take place in the laboratories, a notebook and various types of graphite, colors (watercolors in particular) or inks with regard to freehand drawing.
